Lorde Golden Globes inspired tutorial

Last weekend Lorde showed up on the red carpet of the Golden Globes. I've already declared my love for her in a previous post but her makeup looked so flawless that I decided to recreate another look of hers. I really like recreating her looks because we have very similar features in our face, except she has better eyebrows (unfortunately).

The inspiration:

I've been told that Lorde's makeup was done using only Kat Von D products, however, I don't own any. To recreate her radiant skin I started with the L'Oréal Lumi Magique primer. On top I applied my Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. These two together create a radiant base that still looks like skin. While your BB cream is setting, move on to the eyes and brows. For the eyes I used both the Naked 2 palette and the Vice 3 palette, I forgot to swatch the colours but I've written in depth reviews for the both of them.

Brows

Lorde's brows are very natural looking, they're not darkened or #onfleek. This gives her look something special and cool. First, apply a primer all over your eyelid and eyebrows. Take an eyeshadow that's about 2 shades lighter than your brow hairs and only fill in the sparse parts until you're happy with the result. You can darken them a little on the inner part of the arch, to make them more neat. When you're done apply a brow gel (or spritz some hairspray onto a spoolie) and brush your brows in place.

Eyes

Apply Truth to the brow bone and apply DTF to the outer V of the eye.

Next, blend that out and use Downfall as your transition colour. It's okay to take Downfall a little further into the crease than DTF. This will create a smokey effect. Blend until you're happy with the result.

Apply Snakebite to the outer half of the mobile lid and blend that into the crease colours.

Then, take Bootycall and apply it onto the inner half of the lid and the entire inner corner area.

To create that extra shimmer dimension on the middle of the lid, take Last Sin and apply that to the middle of the lid. Blend that into everything.

For an even brighter inner corner, apply Bobby Dazzle to the very inner corner and the tearduct.

I'm personally not a big fan of applying eyeliner to an already beautiful eyelook, but Lorde is so I did it. Draw a small and subtle line with no wing at the end. Apply some white pencil on the waterline and apply mascara.

While waiting for your mascara to dry, conceal the under eye area.

To finish, apply some false lashes to the outer half of the eye (you can just cut up a regular pair of lashes for this) for a more sultry look.

Face

Set your previously applied base with some powder. Lorde has the same round cheeks like I do, so I basically did what I always do. In circular motions I applied NYX Taupe blush underneath my cheekbones. On the apples of my cheeks I went for the tiniest bit of hot pink blush (Catrice Defining Blush in Pinkerbell)

Lorde's highlighter is something special, it's everywhere. Apply a liquid pearly highlighter to your cheekbones and blend that all the way out to under your eyes. Also apply it to the bridge of the nose and blend that out to the forehead. Apply an extra layer to the parts you want to highlight even more, the tip of the nose and the top of the cheekbones. I highly recommend using NARS liquid illuminator in Copacabana for this.

Lips

Lorde's lips are very different to #kyliejennerlips. She doesn't overdraw her lips a lot and her cupid's bow is always very round. As we've discussed before, use a lip liner first for a clean defined lip. Then apply some red lipstick on top.

Hair

Lorde wore her hair slicked back in a low ponytail. Lorde and Aaron Samuels may look sexy with their hair pushed back, turns out I don't. I just wore it like I always do.
