NYX Blush in Taupe review

My favourite contour eyeshadow ran out the other day, so I ordered this cult classic when it comes to contouring. The NYX powder blush in Taupe.

The blush comes in a small black plastic packaging. The attached cap makes it pretty sturdy. I don't have any strong opinions about the packaging. All I can say is that most $6 blushes look worse and that NYX' minimalistic approach to packaging was probably the right one.

I'd describe the colour as 'milk chocolate'. It's a warm grey, or an ash brown colour. In the beauty blogger world one of the most used words is 'pigmented'. However, something being very pigmented isn't always the best thing you can get. When it comes to blush, that's often the case. You want to layer your blush, rather than applying it in one swipe. That's probably what the creators of this blush thought too. When you swatch this with your finger, it won't show up. When you use it with your brush (I use the Real Techniques Contouring Brush) it gives you small amounts of products, making it perfect for contouring. The product is completely matte, which is what you want for contouring. It's also great to fill in your eyebrows if you're on the #messybrow bandwagon like me.

All in all I'd say this is a great product for everyday contouring. It won't give you an extremely dark and harsh contour, but a light and natural looking one. My previous contouring product was an eyeshadow from Flormar, which was perfect for me. I was just lazy and I didn't want to travel all the way to Amsterdam to go get a new one, but this is a good replacement. Below is a picture where I used the blush to contour my cheekbones and to fill in my eyebrows.
